Biological Safety

The Biological Safety (or Biosafety)  Program identifies practices, procedures, and operational standards for safe handling and use of biological materials, infectious agents, and recombinant DNA molecules at Sonoma State University. It is intended to provide the combination of standard and microbiological practices for work with infectious agents in various laboratory settings. The National Institutes of Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and Cal-OSHA provide regulations and guidance in the operational standards contained in this program. The requirements of this program apply to all University members engaged in the laboratory use of infectious agents.

Sonoma State University is not equipped at this time to handle anything beyond a Biosafety Level-2 (BSL-2). The requirements of the SSU Biosafety Program only apply to BSL-1 and BSL-2.
