Stormwater Management
Stormwater management is the effort to protect the health of stormwater by reducing the amount of pollutants that are carried into our storm drain system.
Why is stormwater management important?
When stormwater is absorbed into the soil, it naturally filters and replenishes aquifers or flows into natural collection points (ponds, streams and rivers). However, stormwater can pick up and carry pollutants into the storm drain system during heavy rain events. Pollutants can include bacteria, trash, oil, and grease from roadways or industry. Many of these pollutants can negatively impact the ecosystem.

“Only Rain Down the Drain!”
Cycle through the slideshow below to learn more about how stormwater is managed on the campus. The goal at Sonoma State is to eliminate pollution introduced to stormwater as it flows to its natural collection points.
Ensuring that waste is in proper receptacles, maintaining our storm drains, and covering or removing materials that may pollute stormwater during rain events are all part of how we keep stormwater flowing across our campus pure and clean.
