Campus-wide Safety Committee Meeting Minutes January 13, 2022

Attendance: Missy Brunetta, Christy Gorman, Michael Hazen, Kelley Greene, Karl Mortenson, Trisha Ramos, Erin Taylor, Steven Green, Dennis Goss, Tyson Hill, Erin Taylor, Michael Eynon, Jordan Lundberg, Ryan Henne, Lauren Antoni

 
  1. Meeting was called to order at 9:03 a.m. 

  2. Review of minutes from the previous month were approved as written at 9:04 a.m.

  3. Changes in EH&S

    1. Tyson Hill announced that the incumbents in the EH&S Director and the Hazardous Materials Compliance Manager roles both have left SSU. Missy Brunetta will be stepping in to provide oversight to EH&S department in her new role as Interim Senior Director for Risk Management, Emergency Services, and Campus Safety Operations.Risk Management will be recruiting soon for a new Director for Environmental Health and Safety. 

  4. Incident Review 

    1. Trisha Ramos reported three injuries for the prior month. One injury required medical injury, as well. 

    2. Missy Brunetta reported a minor hazardous material storage handling issue in the prior month. 

  5. Standing Reports

    1. Karl Mortenson from the Sonoma State Police Department reported statistics from the Daily Crime Log which included several petty thefts, a hit and run crime, and a sexual assualt report. 

    2. Christy Gorman reported that EH&S is in the process of reviewing the fall protection program and ensuring the air quality report and drinking water reports are released. In addition, the annual asbestos awareness notification will be sent out soon. 

    3. Dana Twedell shared that Facilities Management (FM) is in the process of managing large amounts of work orders due to the return to semester. FM is currently also managing the 12KV upgrade project, which is scheduled to begin in Winter 2022, and the solar microgrid project will begin in Summer 2023. Also, the key upgrade project is scheduled for completion in Summer 2021.

    4. Ryan Jasen Henne from Student Affairs shared that the DAP report was completed and is in final review. In partnership with FM, campus housing is being tested for asbestos in one village on campus. 

    5. Kendall Newman shared that the SafeSSU committee has convened and is focused on spring semester programming goal cultivation. The new website has also been launched. 

    6. Dennis Goss from CSUEU inquired about the availability of N-95 masks. Brunetta shared those are available in the Seawolf Service Center after completion of the voluntary respiratory program completion. 

    7. Jordan Lundberg, Teamsters Safety Steward, shared his gratitude for the N-95 masks that EH&S launched with the voluntary respiratory program completion. 

    8. Brunetta shared an update on COVID-19 within the campus and local community. Brunetta shared the testing center on campus has seen a large increase in the number of tests being conducted and corresponding delays in testing results. Campus community members are encouraged to remain flexible and patient if visiting the clinic.
