Accident & Near Miss Review (Workers’ Compensation)

45 accidents reported in total in 2019

10 % decrease in accidents from 2018 recorded in 2019

Safety Manager position hired Christy Gorman, who starts on February 26

Powered Cart Safety Program has been submitted in draft form to campus stakeholders for review

E-waste & U-Waste is developing and implementing training, which also includes the addition of new battery waste containers, launching soon to the campus

Student Safety in labs is being addressed by faculty prior to the start of the semester of learning and records are retained by the academic departments

Disability Awareness Month is coming up in April, which will include activities, lectures and campus events

Facilities Management

Campus safety walk is scheduled for February 18 and various designees from the areas within Facilities will be attending

Emergency Services

Coronavirus continues to be present, but still remains a low risk for our campus
-
Flu is very common and the Student Health Center is responding appropriately, which includes providing flu shots to students and recommending basic hygiene acts as deterrents

New Business from members / Roundtable Discussion

Committee members discussed independent contractors on campus not adhering to safety guidelines and the need to follow-up with vendors to ensure compliance with campus safety policies
-
Committee members also addressed the door at Campus Prints and its inaccessibility for some populations of the campus community as it does not have an automatic door. It was recommended to put in a work order to address the closure and possible solutions.

Conversation occurred regarding the various potholes around campus and the determination was made to submit work orders for those you encounter
-
Committee also addressed the need for evacuation information to be communicated to the campus community for those with mobility challenges. There is a project in with Facilities to add signage to buildings that address evacuation procedures and is in process.
